This 20th edition of CYPRUS FILM DAYS International Festival 2022 undoubtedly carries a celebratory feel. The Festival opens amidst a high-spirited atmosphere, with all eyes turned on the big screen for nine intensely satisfying days of world cinema.
The Festival’s opening is scheduled to take place on Friday 8th of April at 20.00 at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, with the screening of Patchwork by Cypriot director Petros Charalambous, written by Janine Teerling.
The screening will be preceded by the opening ceremony, which holds a surprise this year: a retrospective show recalling the Festival’s path from its very beginning to its current form. The opening ceremony, curated by director Paris Erotokritou, will take place outdoors and will be presented by acclaimed Cypriot actress Kika Georgiou (a jury member at last year’s edition) who will recite an original text honouring a selection of films that have participated in the Festival over the years.
The show will be complemented by a video created by Emilios Avraam and talented musicians performing on stage, namely Christos Gerolatsitis (piano), Stelios Xydias (drums) and Andreas Gerolatsitis (guitar).
After the screening of Patchwork, an opening party will follow, with the DJ’s music selection electrifying the atmosphere and creating a festive spirit for the festival-goers. This celebratory opening will be attended by official festival guests, the members of the international jury, members of the film community, as well as organisers’ representatives (Cultural Services - MoECSY and the Rialto Theatre), the sponsors and, last but not least, the festival’s loyal audience.
Following this celebratory opening evening, the Festival will begin to unfold its programme of screenings and events starting this weekend 9 and 10 April in both cities, Limassol and Nicosia. On these first two days only, a selection of seven films from all festival sections will be screened in each city. And this is just the beginning!
