16th INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL OF CYPRUS
International Competition Programme
Restless, daring and hungry for life, the 16th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus takes place from 10 to 16 October at Rialto Theatre in Limassol. For seven days, lovers of short film can explore a multifaceted programme of screenings and events that moves between stories, moods and ways of seeing.
At the heart of the festival lies the International Competition Programme, selected by Artistic Directors Keti Papadema and Diomedes Koufteros. This year's films make up a programme of truly global reach: from Chile and Cuba to Sudan and Algeria, and from Norway and Spain to Iran, Taiwan and Vietnam. Each film brings its own perspective to Limassol, capturing different cultures, contemporary anxieties and new ways of storytelling.
From the opening ceremony on Saturday 10 October to the awards ceremony on Friday 16 October, the evening screenings at 20:00 alternate between fiction, documentary and animation: films that dare to play with form, move from the personal to the political, and look the issues of our time straight in the eye.
Above all, this year's edition is a celebration of the yearning for life: a joy that finds room in the world, despite everything happening in it. In the darkness of the Rialto auditorium, filmmakers and audiences share the experience of the screening, where every film is completed through the eyes of its viewers.
