Following his celebrated performances at the National Theatre in Burnt by the Sun, The Revenger's Tragedy, Philistines and The Man of Mode, Rory Kinnear plays Hamlet in a dynamic new production of Shakespeare’s complex and profound play about the human condition, directed by Nicholas Hytner. 


He is joined by Clare Higgins (Gertrude), Patrick Malahide (Claudius), David Calder (Polonius), James Laurenson (Ghost/Player King) and Ruth Negga (Ophelia).

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss, with a Sarabande and a masterpiece for violin, which will be performed by the soloist Wolfgang Schroeder.


In the second half, Ligeti’s Concert Romanesc and also plays of Martinu will be performed.

The siblings Kiya and Ziya Tabassian of Persian origin are researching and interpreting the musical traditions of the East.


Illuminating East and West, the band was established in 1998 in Montreal as a forum for the crossroad of traditions. During the last decade, the group has performed 35 new concerts in about 120 cities in 22 countries.


The virtuoso musicians of sitar and tombak collaborate with great instrument players from all over the world, like the virtuoso oud musician and composer Kyriako Kalaitzides from Salonica, Greece.

The result is presented at the Cultural Centre of Platres.

The World of Diamantis  


Dancecyprus in collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra takes us back to our roots and to the Cypriot heritage. With over 35 dancers and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra musicians, the choreography will demonstrate a journey into the monumental work “The world of Cyprus” by Adamantios Diamantis. 


The programme includes symphonic arrangements of Cypriot folk music and works by Cypriot composers inspired by Cypriot folk music.

The choreography of Kenneth MacMillan was first performed at the Royal Opera House in London in 1974; based on the titled novel that was then turned into opera by Jules Massenet and Puccini.

The Sound of Drums 

Cyprus Symphony Orchestra 


The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents its soloists in the play for six drums of the Czech composer Georg Druschetzky, next to the four orchestral miniatures of the Cypriot composer Artemis Aifotiti.


The program concludes with the Schubert’s 5th Symphony. There will be a brief presentation of the plays by the clarinetist and musicologist Angelos Angelides prior each concert.

Songs of the Seas’ Poet; 35 years after his album release (1979), the great performer Giannis Koutras sings with same vigor, the "Southern Cross" in music of Thanos Mikroutsikos.


The program is interspersed with other compositions based on the poetry of Nikos Kavvadias.

Schoolteacher Kyra Hollis (Carey Mulligan) receives an unexpected visit from her former lover, Tom Sergeant (Bill Nighy), a successful and charismatic restaurateur whose wife has recently died.


As the evening progresses, both attempts to rekindle their once passionate relationship, yet find themselves locked in a dangerous battle of opposing ideologies and mutual desires.

Once Upon a Time... There was music

Our voyage is guided by the magic of music as we travel through time from the sounds of an ancient Greek tombstone inscription, to the devout byzantine hymns.


The stream of time brings us to the West, into the experimentation of renaissance music, the flourishing baroque sound, the genius symmetry of classical music, the passion and ideologies of the romantic period to culminate with 20th century music. And yet, the journey has not reached its end. Modern times brings to the forth sounds of jazz for everyone’s pleasure. Finally, a light breeze carries us back to the starting point, the traditional Greek and Cypriot songs.  


Participate: The Larnaka and Famagusta Music Lyceums Choirs and the Limassol Music Lyceum Jazz ensemble and Nicosia’s Music Lyceum traditional music ensemble
