The 22nd Cyprus Choreography Platform is approaching. The choreographers who have been selected this year, along with all the other contributors: dancers, dramaturgs, set designers, musicians, lighting, etc. artists, work intensively to co-create new choreographic proposals and new projects. Their goal is to highlight the wealth of creation and inspiration of Cypriot artists by presenting works inspired by existential and social issues.
The artists who create the parallel events work systematically, which frames and enriches the central program of performances. The parallel events are organized by the Limassol Dance House under the title "Dance Throughout the Year".

CHANNELS (Lia Haraki)
The artist uses the condition of the performance as a frame that allows for the meeting, the interaction, and the coexistence of one’s several bodies. At a time when humanity goes through extreme changes and is under constant threats of a nuclear war, personal balance seems impossible. The work, therefore, exposes how the post-traumatic body from the pandemic continues to have to cope with new challenges that prevent a greatly desired tranquility. The embodiment of the complexity of the self may be the beginning of its acceptance and at the same time a chance for its survival.

Gray beats my soul (Samantha Moses)
Being young feels like a superpower, an energy vibrating between the body and soul, an endless desire to learn it all. A journey of self-love. However, humans tend to automatically destroy their own creations by sabotaging themselves so that they can rise again from their ashes. I metaphorically use the fact of being young to create the contradiction where we destroy our own portraits, as Dorian Gray did with his. I feel that after the pandemic, we've become addicted to our phones admiring our own reflections, turning it into a narcissistic habit. We seek the source of social media immortality by emphasizing our outward appearance instead of focusing on the inner growth of ourselves and our close ones.

The Magical Other (Milena Ugren Koulas & Stylish Junkies)
“The Magical Other” is a little choreographic work that belongs to my ongoing bigger research about how trauma affects people and how traumatic experiences shape the way we think, move, communicate and relate to others. In this piece together with dancers, we explored how unhealed trauma creates magnetic, destructive, and awkward communication between people. "The Magical Other" is about the desperate search for each other to mend the trauma.
Milena Ugren Koulas has been working professionally as a dancer and choreographer for the last 20 years.
Choreographer: Milena Ugren Koulas, in collaboration with dancers
Dancers: Elena Gavriel, Katerina Tylliridou

The Day After (Harry Koushos)
I am searching for the threshold, the entry or exit point, depending on where you are standing. It no longer exists. Only debris. A piece of wall with the children’s names engraved, and next to them their height and the date. I try to dust it off to read my own name, but it crumbles. Completely. The dust gets into my lungs and my eyes. I continue. The heat is unbearable.

The Awesome Performance (bytheway productions & Arianna Marcoulides)
I had this vision that I could create a performance so awe-inspiring, so life-changing that it would be the catalyst for positive change, as much on an individual as well as a global scale, to all who would experience it. Then I realized that that might be a little too ambitious of me and slightly pretentious. It got me thinking about awe though and the role that it has in our lives. What is it there for? When do we experience it? Is it necessary? Is that what art is there for? Do we seek it out or does it just happen? How lasting is this life change? This is the journey I take with co-performer and collaborator Eleana Alexandrou. We float we wonder, and we awe.

Radical Kindness (Julia Anna Brendle)
The body is where our instincts reside and where we fight, flee, or freeze, and it endures the trauma and the memories inflicted by society and personal experience. The only truly useful memories are those that might initially seem to be the least reliable: memories stored in the body and not necessarily accessible by our conscious mind. In this piece, we ask the body to remember, share and develop a memory of the present.
