Most importantly, he recalls his efforts towards the Greek Language Question, the female-muse presence that had a profound impact in his work and the only muse that never abandoned him: his homeland, Greece.

Α long list of fiction, documentary, experimental and animation short films from across the globe will be screened at this 11th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. Through this large selection of films, directed by Cypriot and international filmmakers, the Festival offers to the local audience a unique opportunity to enjoy the best of international short film cinema.  

The ISFFC, which is part of the European Film Academy’s network of accredited festivals, also presents parallel events and programmes curated by Artistic Directors Ioakim Mylonas and Alexia Roider.

17 Lorca: Canciones españolas antiguas 

Lorca: Old Spanish Songs

Presenting a repertoire of old Spanish songs by Federico Garcia Lorca, this performance combines on stage sung poetry with flamenco and narration in Greek.

 

With the participation of choreographer and flamenco dancer Philippa Stylianoudi, mezzo-soprano Natasa Panayi, soprano Panayiota Kapnisi, guitarist Costas Apokidis and actor Kyriakos Hadjistyllis.

20 Libertango

Diotima presents Libertango, a dance and music performance featuring five acclaimed Cypriot artists who will introduce the audience to the fascinating world of tango, traversing a journey across the Mediterranean Region and Latin America. The performance highlights the Mediterranean passion in works such as La Vida Breve by Manuel de Falla and Georges Bizet’s Carmen, as well as the Latin temper in Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango.

22 Body, Remember...  

Constantine P. Cavafy

Composer Yiorgos Kalogirou sets the love poems of Constantine P. Cavafy to music, featuring piano, bassoon, the voice of a baritone and a narrator, while introducing texts of the poet and intermezzos in-between the songs. In these love poems, which make up the repertoire of songs performed, the poet intensely expresses love through the memory of the body, attributing to it a mental and spiritual dimension. 

With the participation of: Evangelos Christodoulou (bassoon), Nataly Neophytou (oboe), Manolis Neophytou (piano) and Yiorgos Kalogirou (composition, performance, narration)

23 The Night of the Ad Eaters

For the past 40 years, Jean-Marie Boursicot presents the world-famous Night of the Ad Eaters including an extraordinary selection of commercials personally selected by Boursicot himself. The owner of an incredible selection of commercials including more than one million advertisements, will present the new show at the Rialto Theatre, offering 6 hours of inspiration and showcasing 400 commercial masterpieces. 

 

Guests are asked to follow the pop-art dress code to create the proper atmosphere of the event.  

The event is scheduled from 19:00 to 01:00 including 2 breaks.

A performance based on the book of the same title, written by Maro Thodoraki, the niece of Mikis Thodorakis, centered around the unknown childhood of the great Greek composer, presenting moments, images and milestones in the life of the world-renowned musician, as well as of modern Greek history.
